SEQUENCE

This series draws from a universal, quiet impulse: the act of stacking. Found across landscapes—from cairns that mark a path to stone assemblies on coastal edges—these forms embody a balance that feels intentional and that condition of held equilibrium is the starting point for Sequence.

Each component is formed through a distinct ceramic process, including hand-built, slab-built, extruded, and altered thrown forms. Every method introduces its own structural logic and constraints. Rather than imposing a final shape, the material is worked to the point where direction becomes evident and form resolves through response rather than invention.

The finished works are composed through careful placement and adjustment. Stacking becomes a measured negotiation of weight, alignment, and tension, where balance is tested until the structure feels inevitable. Symmetry is used selectively, only when it reinforces stability rather than decoration. Controlled palettes and restrained surface contrast bring clarity to the compositions, reinforcing their architectural presence.

Conceived as sculptural ceramics for interior environments, the Sequence works function as spatial anchors. Referencing natural structures without imitation, they emphasize orientation, rhythm, and visual weight — objects defined by accumulated decisions and the quiet discipline of balance over time.
